Throughout the Scout year, your Den leader or Pack Treasurer will be collecting money for various Pack functions and activities. These will be addressed in the monthly newsletters that will be handed out at Pack Meetings, and also via weekly information given to you at Den meetings. The following is a reminder of what two fees are required for your son's involvement in the Pack.
B.S.A. Dues - $22.00
This annual fee must be collected in January by BSA from every registered Scout and Adult leader for the annual rechartering of the Pack. This fee includes the $10.00 yearly membership to B.S.A and a limited insurance coverage during scout activities. Pack 161 pays this fee as one payment to BSA. Additionally, your son will receive a subscription to "Boys Life" magazine. The annual fee for this subscription is $12.00.
Pack 161 Dues - $50.00
This fee goes towards the cost of your son's Pinewood Derby car, meal at the Blue & Gold Banquet, the many awards that will be presented to him throughout the year, and other reported activities. Additionally, this fee reduces the amount of required fund raisers to support the pack, which many times are in competition with local school and church fund raising programs. The deadline for this is the October Pack meeting. If you just signed up on Join Scout Night, you've probably already paid this. The Pack maintains a separate bank account with records being kept by a Pack Treasurer.
Den Dues
The pack committee has approved the collection of monthly den dues. The money collected will help the den leader offset costs of crafts and other items he/she provides for the boys. The committee approved recommended monthly den dues of up to $5 per month. This amount may vary from den to den based upon activities planned by the den leader. It is strongly suggested that the boys earn their den dues by doing chores for the family, friends, neighbors, or relatives. This is to help teach the boys the responsibility of providing his own den dues each month and remembering to bring it to the den meetings.
Scholarship
If any Scout family has difficulty meeting this expense, please notify the Pack Committee Chairman, Pack Treasurer, or Cubmaster. Arrangements can be made to assist when necessary as the pack does not want money to prevent any boy from joining Cub Scouts.
Other Costs
Pack 161 will participate in other activities which include camping, banquets, field trips, fun day, day camp, twilight camp, etc. In most cases these activities will have a participation fee and may require families to provide their own food and equipment. Details on costs will normally be provided through a flyer or announcement of the activity and questions can be directed to your Den Leader or Cubmaster.

Annual Audit
Pack 161 is a non-profit organization. As such it does manage finances and its fiscal year is August 1 – July. Each year the treasurer's books will be audited by one or more persons appointed by the committee chairman. The audit is to be completed by September 15, or prior to annual planning, whichever comes first. The treasurer also will provide a monthly accounting of all money to the pack committee. Any requests for financial reimbursements should be given to the treasurer. Reimbursements to Leaders for supplies or materials purchased on behalf of the Pack must have an auditable receipt. Questions regarding finances should be directed to the Treasurer, Committee Chairman, or the Cubmaster.
